Within Lanterne Magiche Ortigia, the Sala Vittorini comes to life – an elegant vintage cinema-theatre dedicated to the Syracusan writer, translator, and journalist Elio Vittorini.

The Sala Vittorini was officially established in 1995 in Ortigia, within the historic Palazzo Corpaci on Via Alagona, as part of a Cinema Museum. In 2025, the venue underwent a careful restoration that enhanced its original character, transforming it into a private cinema-theater designed to preserve and share its cinematic legacy. Even today, the hall preserves and displays rare vintage cinema equipment, authentic testimonies to the history of cinema.

In this intimate setting, surrounded by vintage furnishings, soft lighting, and timeless charm, guests are invited to enjoy an immersive experience filled with nostalgia and wonder. Throughout the day, thanks to the work of the film archive “Cineteca dello Stretto,” a curated selection of restored footage from early twentieth-century Sicily is screened on loop. These historically significant images portray landscapes, traditions, and moments of everyday life from a bygone era, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into Sicily’s cinematic memory.
